FIRM HISTORY
Humphreys,
McLaughlin & McAleer, LLC,
is a new name, but not a new firm. Originally founded
by the late Robert L. Humphreys, Jr. and the Honorable Jeffrey C. Herwig
in March of 1991, the firm was then named Herwig & Humphreys, LLP.
After the founding of their firm as a two-member entity in 1991, their
vision was to assemble a small group of exceptionally skilled litigators
concentrating in the field of workers' compensation defense of Maryland
and the District of Columbia claims, as well as claims under the Longshore
and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act.
While building on an already well-established
reputation for integrity and competence, Mr. Humphreys co-authored the
Maryland Workers' Compensation Handbook, (Michie, ed. 1993) with the
late and Honorable Richard P. Gilbert, Chief Judge of the Court of Special
Appeals. Around this time, the firm began growing with the addition
of associate attorneys.
In 2006, Mr. Herwig was selected
by Governor Robert L. Erlich, Jr. to become a Commissioner on the Maryland
Workers' Compensation Commission. After confirmation by the Maryland
State Senate, Mr. Herwig was required to relinquish his interest in the
firm, as he took his position with the Commission. The law firm
remains a firm of exceptional and dedicated attorneys committed to the
vision and values of its founders. The firm was officially renamed
Humphreys, McLaughlin & McAleer, LLC on June 1, 2006. Kathryn
McAleer is the managing attorney. Since its inception in 1991, the
firm has grown and now consists of nine attorneys with a total of over 145
years of legal experience.
